No television set that's made, no screen that you can find, can compare with that of radio, the theater of the mind. Where the pictures are so vivid, so spectacular and real, that there isn't any contest, or at least that's how I feel.

Charles Osgood — 1933–2024 — CBS News

Melanie — 1947–2024

We were so close, there was no room
We bled inside each other's wounds
We all caught the same disease
And we all sang the songs of peace

W. Somerset Maugham — 1874–1965 — "Of Human Bondage" "Theater".

Impropriety is the soul of wit.

You can do anything in this world if you are prepared to take the consequences.

Anyone can tell the truth, but only very few of us can make epigrams.

The fact that a great many people believe something is no guarantee of its truth.

We are not the same persons this year as last; nor are these we love. It is a happy chance if we, changing, continue to love a changed person.

Nothing in the world is permanent, and we're foolish when we ask anything to last; but surely we're still more foolish not to take delight in it while we have it.

If a nation values anything more than freedom, it will lose its freedom; and the irony is that if it values comfort or money more, it will lose that too.

It's a funny thing about life: if you refuse to accept anything but the best, you very often get it.

To acquire the habit of reading is to construct for yourself a refuge from almost all of the miseries of life.

The secret to life is meaningless unless you discover it yourself.

The most valuable thing I have learned from life is to regret nothing.

It is a nuisance that knowledge can only be acquired by hard work.

The only important thing in a book is the meaning that it has for you.

Only a mediocre person is always at his best.

The love that lasts longest is the love that is never returned.
